Lower Your Bounce Rate by Engaging Your Visitors

You’ve just had a look at your Google Analytics and are a bit surprised to see that most traffic to your site are leaving within a couple of seconds. This is what’s called your bounce rate, and if you have one that’s around 50 percent, then you will want to take some action.

Why is your bounce rate important?

Google examines your site’s bounce rate as part of its search algorithm, and a high rate can lower your page rankings. Furthermore, if most people are leaving upon arrival, your site is probably not doing what you’d hoped it would. Occasionally this can be a result of your site’s pages loading slowly, which can definitely cause people to move on. But if you’ve got that in check, listed below are three ideas to help you keep visitors from bouncing off your pages!

  • Use video – Using video or other multimedia content can make a dramatic difference in many ways. For starters, video has proven to be a factor in not only reducing bounce rates, but also in boosting user engagement, increased traffic, (YouTube embeds strengthen your rankings) and increased sales and preferred actions. The same content of some 1500 to 2000 words offered in a video, audio or slideshow will frequently be viewed as a whole.
  • Make your content more readable – Resist the urge to plop large chunks of content on a web page. Break it up into shorter, more consumable paragraphs, and be sure to use subheads, bullet points and lists to split up the visual look of it. The wise use of images will help you get your points across also, and are nice to see.
  • Have related content within your pages – It’s a good guess that you’ve got content on your site that is more than a little relevant to what you’re posting. Make sure you link to any other content on your site that people might find interesting, and give them a terrific reason to stick around. For people with a WordPress blog, this can be as simple as using a Related Post plugin.
