But, do you ever find yourself leaving work, wishing you had just a few more hours to get things done? Or maybe your day begins with an off-site appointment and you\u2019d simply like to touch base while on the go. Scenarios like these have brought many of us to wonder how we can work from home or anywhere else. Thankfully, there are a number of options to get you started, some even for FREE!<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>TO WORK REMOTELY IS TO CONNECT DIRECTLY TO YOUR OFFICE COMPUTER<\/em><\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>What does it mean to work \u201cremotely?\u201d It\u2019s more than simply using a second computer to create and modify work-related content. To work remotely is to connect directly to your office computer. Essentially you are using a second computer to access and control your office computer.<\/p>\n<p>In this series we\u2019ll take a look the various software that are available to help you get started; we\u2019ll take a close look the pro\u2019s and con\u2019s of using FREE software; and finally, we\u2019ll examine the industry leader, Microsoft Remote Desktop.<\/p>\n<h3>GETTING STARTED<\/h3>\n<p>Before getting carried away, you will need to think about the status of your office computer. If you are using a desktop computer, you will need to leave it on. This means ensuring that any auto power-down functions are disabled. If your office computer is a laptop, then make sure it\u2019s plugged in before you leave. In both cases, your office computer needs to be connected to the internet.<\/p>\n<p>Next, you\u2019ll need to install some software and configure your office and remote computers. Popular applications for this sort of thing are LogMeIn, TeamViewer and Microsoft Remote Desktop.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>LogMeIn<\/strong>\u00a0 is free to try for 14 days and is quite popular for remote business applications.\u00a0 Plans start at $109\/year.<\/li>\n<li><strong>TeamViewer<\/strong> is free for home use and business licenses are sold as a one-time purchase for $759 (no monthly payments)!<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Microsoft Remote Desktop<\/strong> is part of the company\u2019s cloud services platform and many different options are available, but you\u2019ll need to use the Windows Pro version for connecting to your office PC.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Of course, <strong>Nexthop<\/strong> is available to assist you with all of your remote work needs.\u00a0 We can take a look at your situation and point you in the right direction.<\/p>\n<p>LogMeIn and TeamViewer are both free to try and can be installed fairly easily, without a degree in computer science.\u00a0 While Microsoft\u2019s contribution to the remote desktop game is more robust and powerful, it will take some extra know-how to get set up.\u00a0 We\u2019ll cover the start-up process for both the consumer-friendly products as well as for the industry-giant in our next posts.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, if you have questions about working remotely, or if you\u2019re eager to get started with one of the products we\u2019ve covered, just leave your comments below.<\/p>\n<p>We would be happy to help!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; We all love heading home after a long day at the office.
