Plenty of the tools we use on a daily basis, such as smartphones, and laptops, have flash storage built in.<\/p>\n<p> <\/p>\n<p><strong>What is flash storage?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Flash storage devices make it very easy to store data and transport it from one machine to another. Flash memory qualifies as a solid storage device, meaning it is electronic, not mechanical like data CDs.<\/p>\n<p> <\/p>\n<p>Other major features of flash storage include:<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A non-volatile storage chip, meaning it doesn&rsquo;t need a constant flow of power to maintain the information stored in the chip<\/li>\n<li>There are no moving parts<\/li>\n<li>Allows for easy electronic storage<\/li>\n<li>Data can be easily erased and the device can be reprogrammed<\/li>\n<li>Allows for quick access to data<\/li>\n<li>Extreme durability, particularly when coming in the form of a memory card<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> <\/p>\n<p>All of these features make flash storage a popular choice, especially for portable devices, such as cell phones. Many people use their smartphones or iPods as external hard drives by hooking them up to their computers and transferring data to them.
